Timetravel
Light design in the worlds longest dual tube tunnel between Xian and Ankang in China.
Inside the heart of China the drivers encounter a piece of Norway, under ground! Light design from KADABRA keeps Chinese drivers awake in the world’s longest dual tube tunnel.
In the near 20 kilometres long tunnel passing through Quinling Mountain, the drivers are met by 3 domes within the tunnel. In the same way as in Lærdal tunnel in Norway, the domes are meant to break the monotony of the ride, preventing drivers from falling asleep behind the wheel.

In addition, the domes are supposed to prevent claustrophobia, and provide the drivers with a feeling of comfort. These factors help increase the safety of the tunnel.
The starting point for the concept “Time travel” is the acceleration of time that takes place in a tunnel. The light sequence represents the full 24 hours span of the sun, in a journey which in real life takes no longer than 15 minutes! Using light effects, the drivers go through an accelerated sunrise, - day, sunset and night- , before they reach the other side of the mountain. We wished to match the light inside the tunnel with the outside light as you go into the tunnel.

The sequences of the lit domes are thus different depending on the time of day. During daytime you will get the sunset - night – sunrise routine, whereas the sequence during night will be sunrise - day - sunset.
